Ghana, West Africa
The Republic of Ghana is in West Africa. It borders the Ivory Coast to the West.
Gold, timber, cocoa, diamond and manganese production are major sources of foreign exchange.
Landing in Accra, the capital, our team was met by Pastor Daniel, our contact in Ghana. He drove us about two hours to the Volta Region where we were taken to our hotel. The next morning he took us to introduce us to several Pastors’ and to visit different churches. We were given a great welcome with food and dancing. We prayed and sang with the local village people which we really enjoyed. We spent several days going from church to church and visiting with the people. We were told about an island in the Volta Region where only idol worshipers live. I asked Pastor Daniel to take us there. We traveled by canoe for about one hour. As we landed and stepped out of our canoes, many villagers were standing around watching us. Many said they have heard about the white people, but have never seen them. We walked through the village talking with the people through an interpreter. As we talked and visited, we asked that they tell everybody to meet us at a certain place on the island so that we could tell them about our God. Many came, most out of curiosity. As we talked with them about Jesus and His love for them, they became very serious. Their faces showed intense interest in Who He is, and how they could come to know Him. Eleven people accepted the Lord that day. There is no joy like the joy of leading someone to the Lord. These people told us they have never heard the Name of Jesus! This is hard to comprehend in our day and time. “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent?” Romans 10: 14-15a. We explained what baptism means and how we wanted to return the next day to baptize those who had accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. It was getting late in the day as we got back into our canoes for the trip back down the river. We arrived at our hotel after dark. The next morning we went back to the island and baptized those who had confessed Jesus as Lord. What a blessing!! Pray for these precious Brothers and Sisters in Christ, as we know the difficulties they face living among the idol worshipers on this island. We also know that they can be a light in a dark place. We plan on going back to the Volta Region one day as there are many islands there where others have not heard the Gospel. If you’re interested in taking a mission trip please contact us.
