Romania/Hungry
Budapest is the capital of Hungry and the main commercial center of the country. The Danube River divides Hungary and Romania.
We drove from Budapest to Celecia, Romania on our first mission trip to Romania, August 2006. As we crossed the border between the two countries we could see the old guard tower standing where it had been since the communist party was in control until 1989. Other reminders were evident of those days not so long ago when it would have been impossible for us to pass through the guards. I’m thankful for the day that we live in now where we are free to go to most countries in Europe and preach the Gospel.
We were a team of 12 people. Most were from Scotland with the Tong Christian Fellowship and two of us from the U.S. Thanks to Tong Christian Fellowship for their wonderful fellowship and taking us to many places we could only dream of going.
As we entered Romania, the faces of the people were not much different than those in Hungary, where a look of depression was heavy on them. My prayer is that God will send missionaries to theses countries to spread the Gospel. We saw churches, but most were old and run by the government.
In the villages life is very different. The gypsy population is large in Romania. These are wonderfully happy people, very loving and kind. We were welcomed in their homes, fed great food and drink and given fresh vegetables to take with us when we left. We danced and sang with them in their homes and were invited to attend three of their church services.
Please pray for Hungary and Romania. There is a real need for the Gospel in these countries. The Church is growing, praise the Lord! Let’s join together to get this work done in Jesus Name.
