You might remember that in October we learned that faith comes from hearing and hearing by the Word of Christ. But then what? There is a difference between hearing and receiving. You see, you could hear a great sermon preached. You can accept it with a positive response. You might even give it a loud and energetic “Amen!” But then the service is over, you walk out the church doors or turn off the tv, or take out your ear buds and go about your life just like you did before you heard the Word. OR- you could receive the Word and begin to apply it in your life. You can become a “doer” of the Word, like it says in James 1:22.
“But prove yourselves doers of the Word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.”
Listening to the Word is just the beginning! As you are reading your Bible this week, or listening to your favorite Christian podcast, or Christian song on the radio, allow the words to enter your heart and mind. Begin to implement them in your life. It may prove to be a little difficult, but God is with you! He didn’t expect you to do it by yourself. He sent the Holy Spirit to you when you accepted Christ as your Savior. Activate that power through prayer.
My husband and I recently took a road trip that called for us to go through a tunnel and then over a super skinny and long bridge. We have taken this trip many times over the years and these things have never bothered me. Not until two years ago, that is. I was struck with such fear inside. It was horrible ya’ll. Well this year I said I was going through that tunnel and over that bridge no matter what, because I didn’t want us to go three hours out of the way just to avoid them. I’m grateful I have learned about some natural support as well as calling on the Supernatural. I put in my ear buds, turned up a specific song about how fear doesn’t stand a chance when I stand in His love. I turned that song up so loud that I’m surprised I didn’t burst my eardrums. I proclaimed that message while we went through the tunnel. I snapped this picture as we were coming out of the tunnel and texted it to our son and daughter-in-law, who were a few miles ahead of us. We all praised God in that moment!
Immediately following the tunnel experience, some crazy person thought it would be a good idea to place a long skinny bridge over an expansion of water. It’s safe to say I’m not their biggest fan. LOL. I once again put on my ear buds, playing this same song four times, praising God and talking to Him the whole way. Four times ya’ll. As we approached the middle of the bridge, my husband told me to look up ahead of us and then behind us. No cars in sight! God had removed all the traffic that was around us. It was as if He put up a gate behind us so we could calmly go over the bridge. Well, as calmly as you can be while listening to music that is eardrum bursting. LOL. I’m telling you, there’s nothing like recognizing the enemy trying to worm his way into your life, and calling on the name of Jesus to defeat him. Such victory! How sweet it is! How perfect is His love! God is good!
Experience the promises of the Bible in your life. Ask God to help you put His Word into practice today.
